We explore the island on virtually traffic free roads taking in the exciting gravel tracks of the remote Western Fjords and the incomparable wilderness and natural wonders of Iceland's interior.

Itinerary
Two months prior to tour departure date we will send each participant a tour package which includes map with route outlined, and itinerary with accommodation details
Day 1 - Fly into Keflavik & transfer to Reykjavik
Day 2 - Snaefellsness Peninsula & Snaefellsjokull Glacier
Collect our motorcycles from our shipping agent. Ride northwest to the end of the Snaefellsness Peninsula and enjoy the views of the golden beaches and mountains as we ride over the high trail past the Snaefellsjokul Glacier. The extinct volcanoe was made famous by Jules Verne in "Journey to the centre of the Earth".
Snaefellsness Peninsula is the location of the Viking first landfall.
We continue our ride along the spectacular north coast to our hotel in a beautiful village on the fjord.

Day 3 - Europe's most Westerly Point (Puffin-Ville)
We take the morning ferry to cross Iceland's largest fjord and arrive onto the Western Fjords (2.5 hour crossing) - lookout for one of the many types of whales that feed in the area (sperm whales, orcas, etc) along with numerous species of birds.
We ride along the south coast passing wonderful beaches & hotpools to Europe's most westerly point. An opportunity to see puffins up close on Iceland's highest cliffs.
We overnight in a small village by the fjord.

Day 4 - Northwest Fjords
A ride on the wild side on gravel roads on high passes, picturesque fishing villages, and several spectacular waterfalls.
We enjoy a coffee stop in one of the oldest settlements in the Western Fjords.
Our day continues with a roller coaster ride over several mountain passes, causeways and narrow gravel roads skirting the fjords. An area with few settlements and fields of beautiful Alaskan lupines.

Day 5 - Northwest Fjords (one of the last haunts of the white tailed sea eagle)
A great ride along the northwest fjords with stunning views to the huge Drangajokull glacier.
We visit the Arctic Fox Centre and continue our ride along the north coast to enjoy a coffee stop in a traditional Icelandic turf house.
Our afternoon has us ride on the spectacular coastal route of the Hunaflol fjord to our accommodation on the coast - enroute we visit the weird and wonderful witchcraft museum.

Day 6 - Northern Iceland
We ride a circuitous route along the northern wide glaciated fjords through remote villages and whaling ports to our accommodation on the coast.

Day 7 - Northeastern Iceland
This area is renowned for its dry pleasant summer weather. We ride east through the mountains visiting Godafoss (waterfall of the Gods) along to Myvatn Lake - famous for its fishing and teeming birdlife.
Our afternoon has us ride through a moonscape type terrain to Detifoss (Iceland's most powerful waterfall in Europe). We then continue to Iceland's 'grand canyon'. This canyon was formed by catastrophic glacial flooding in the last ice age.
Our great day finishes with a ride along the north coast to our village by the fjord.

Day 8 - Northern Iceland
This morning we have the opportunity to take an optional whale watching trip and visit the whale museum.
We ride south to Myvatn Lake where we have the opportunity take a hike around the rim of an extinct volcano before riding to our overnight stop on the coast.

Day 9 - Kjolur Route & the Golden Cirlcle
This classic route takes us through the wild highland plateau between two glaciers - an area steeped in legend and folklore and famous for one of Iceland's greatest outlaws
Enroute we have the opportunity to enjoy a dip in a thermal pool surrounded by active geysirs.
In the afternoon we visit Iceland's best known waterfall (Gullfoss - the Golden Falls) and the famous Strokkur Geysir which spouts every 15 minutes.

Day 10 - UNESCO World Heritage-listed Thingvellir National Park
We ride through the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Thingvellir National Park which lies in a rift valley that marks the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge - It is at the northern end of Þingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland.
We ride north into the Pingvellir National Park past the Langjokull Glacier on the Black Desert route to our accommodation on the west coast.

Day 11 - Reykjavik
We ride south down the west coast to Reykjavik and deliver our motorcycles to the shipping agent.
Afternoon to enjoy sightseeing in Reykjavik.

Staying in Hotel & Guest House accommodation throughout enables us to travel light and enjoy the offroad riding during the day and have a lovely warm night's sleep in our accommodation at night!
Our accommodation has been selected to best fit in with our amazing route.

In some cases you may have to share a bathroom in our Guest House accommodation however we typically book out the entire Guest House for our group.

How do I go about shipping my motorcycle to Iceland?
We assist you with all phases of the shipping process - Freighting costs will vary depending on the value of your motorcycle and currency fluctuations at time of booking (please call us for details). Freighting costs are not included in the holiday price.
Your motorcycle is shipped as is. It is loaded into a shipping container, secured, and padded with air bags for protection. You may ship your motorcycle with panniers fully packed and motorcycle ready to ride once it arrives in Iceland (windscreen and mirrors are left in place!)
On booking you will receive a detailed shipping package to include customs paperwork, manifest samples, documentation list, details of our shipping agent, kit list, etc.
2 weeks prior to the start of the tour you will take your motorcycle to the port for shipping from UK to Iceland.
Approximately 9 days AFTER the end of your trip your motorcycle will be ready for you to collect from the port.
How far do we ride each day?
We average 133 miles per day on this tour. A typical day's riding starts at 9am and we reach our destination around 4pm - providing plenty of time to relax and explore the numerous points of interest.
What is the accommodation like?
Our Iceland Overland Tour uses a combination of Hotels and Guest Houses on our exciting route.
We do NOT camp on this Overland Tour.

How large is the island and what are the people like?
Iceland is 39,768.5 square mi.
It is a country which is deceiving in size and it is surprising how much time it takes to explore all of it wonders and mysteries.
The Icelandic people are welcoming and most speak English.
What is the weather in Iceland likely to be?
The weather in Iceland is not unlike that in Scandinavia - You will have to be prepared for anything - wind, rain, fog, sun, cold, and heat. Temperatures may vary 5-20C.
How many riders in the group?
Our groups are normally 8-10 riders.
Is Bike Hire available?
Sorry motorbike hire is not available for this Overland Tour. For our Overland tour clients ride their own bikes - we do however have bike hire available for our more Road oriented tours in Iceland.
Are flights included?
Flights are not included in the tour price. There are several low cost carriers providing passenger services to Iceland - flight times from UK are normally less than 2 hours. Please contact us for details.
What Experience do I need?
Our Overland tour is on 70% Paved roads / 30% Gravel Tracks. You should be an experienced rider and confident riding your own motorcycle (with luggage) on tarmac, gravel tracks, and river crossings. Our route is a mixture of quiet tarmac roads and remote gravel roads. Interior roads are a combination of gravel tracks, mud, and volcanic ash. There are a few river crossings.
Can I take a pillion (passenger) on this Overland tour?
You may take a passenger however you and your passenger must be experienced having already ridden two up on gravel roads. We intentionally have not quoted a Pillion price for this Overland tour however if you are a skilled offroad rider and have the experience riding 2-up on dirt/gravel tracks then please contact us for a pillion price. Otherwise we suggest you join us on our ROAD tour which is 95% paved.
Is this tour run by Wildcat Adventures?
Absolutely! All our tours are organised and led by John & Brigitte of Wildcat Adventures - we do not subcontract ANY of our tours!
